I’ve got the BEST little project for you to make for or WITH your grandkids. (Since I’m hollering at you with capitol letters, I chose to not include exclamation marks lest you think I’m all hyperbole.)
Back to the project… Why, you ask, is it so fabulous? I’ll tell you why:
- Easy-peasy lemon squeezy
- Minimal (if any) cost
- Light-weight and flat, it’s easy to mail without forking over big postage bucks
Felt Faces!
You don’t have to be an artist to whip these up. You just need to know what your basic shapes are. You know, triangle, circle, square. And the less perfect, the better.
I made a few of these “kits” for my grands last year during the pandemic lockdown. Since Halloween’s coming up, I revisited the idea with friendly monsters.
I could have spent all day doing this it was so fun! But, I only spent a half hour cutting up the pieces for these goofy monster faces. If your grands are older, you can let them cut up the felt!
I used scraps of felt that I had, because the collage artist in me can NOT throw anything away. Bits of paper, candy wrappers, felt…I keep it all.
When I sent the kids their kits last year, I divided the shapes into bags labeled “eyes” or “noses” or “hair.” But, really, you can use all of it for all of it! Does that make sense?
The fun part is seeing what your grands do with the colorful shapes. Your “grown” kids might even get in on it. (See below!)
Recyle Idea
One of my daughters-in-love had a wonderful idea. After the boys had played with the silly faces, she packed the kits up and gave them to a little boy who was in the hospital with leukemia. It was a quiet activity he could do in bed–something to occupy all those hours.
Maybe you know of a little who could use a quiet distraction. Or, maybe you need a good excuse to cut and play with your leftover scraps!
Let me know what you think!

Love it, Tracey! Such a fun idea. Off to buy felt and perhaps a few googly eyes in the mix!

You may need to hire some “cutters.” Enjoy!
