This Cookie Artist Creates Goodies Almost too Beautiful to Eat!

December 13, 2022

Right here at Christmas time I’m all about the sweet treats! And a sugar cookie is hard to pass up. But I’ve found some that are (ALMOST) hard to eat…because they are works of art. If you haven’t seen my friend Teressa Carroll’s amazing personalized cookies, prepare yourself before you read this post. They are gorgeous and delicious. I believe this baker extraordinaire can do anything with a simple sugar cookie and icing. No kidding.

Sugar High

Teressa has been decorating cookies “officially” since October 2019. She  worked in Mammography for 30 years before that and stepped back to take care of her family.

“We have a daughter with special needs,” she said, “and it allows me to have a flexible schedule to care for her. Having a career for that long I found myself with a lot of extra time. I have always had a love for being creative and baking and when a cousin of mine in Louisville was posting pictures of her beautiful cookies I thought hey, maybe I could do that! In October of 2019 I was lucky enough to attend a cookie decorating retreat and the labor of love caught on! 2020 was a challenging year in so many ways but my business really grew that year!”

In 2018 the Kentucky State legislature passed the cottage food law that allowed for Kentuckians to be able to produce home processed food. So Teressa uses her own kitchen to bake her cookies. She has a dedicated room just for decorating and packaging.

How Many Cookies Did You Say?

Teressa is married to Danny Carroll, who is the CEO of Easter Seals West Kentucky and Kentucky State Senator for District Two. They have two children–Seth, 30, who works in IT, and Maggie, 23, who works at Parcels Bakery in Draffenville.

She has always enjoyed baking and has been producing tasty treats since she was a small child. She says she remembers baking brownies and simple cakes for her family.

Now she bakes around 2,000 cookies a year! What?!

She got to learn from the best. At a “cookie retreat” she attended in 2019, the instructors were among the elite in the business. Then, in 2021, when she attended “Cookie Con,” a nationwide conference for cookie decorators, she learned many new techniques, business tips, and tricks. Plus, she met a lot of new cookie friends.

Hours of Decorating

Decorating these gems can take hours. “It can really vary due to the theme, how many colors are involved and the details needed,” she said. “So, therefore when there are several different colors, no matter how simple the theme is, it can take a lot longer and the price will go up. On average, though, a dozen will take around three to four hours.”

My math skills aren’t trustworthy, but still WOW! That’s a lot of work, right?

I love the details she includes and the vibrant colors–that gold sparkling icing is just amazing!

Cookies Like These Make a Difference!

One of Teressa’s favorite projects was for the Save the Children foundation. Her cookies were presented to Jennifer Garner and Mark Shriver. On another occasion, she decorated cookies with the Kentucky state logo to honor a retiring member of the Program Review Committee, a committee her husband chairs.

She said she has been honored to provide something so special and unique for so many celebrations, birthdays, baby showers, graduations, business ventures, new home owners, bridal showers, and…the list goes on!

Unbelievable!

Teressa is SO talented! Look at these special cookies she made for a toddler’s birthday. And that cheeseburger with a sesame seed bun, toppings, and French fries with skins on–all cookies!!! I cannot believe how realistic they are! I’m quickly running out of exclamation marks!!
