I’m setting myself up for success this year. Instead of New Year’s resolutions that tend to fall by the wayside as February approaches, I’m giving myself twenty-two ideas to try out. If I do even half of them, I’m going to be better off.
I introduced the first eleven “try-to’s” in my last blog post, and here is the second half.
The Last Eleven Try-To’s
12. Try to go on twenty-two walks via twenty-two different routes. I doubt I’ll make it to twenty-two completely different locations, so I’m saying different routes. This is definitely achievable. One of my favorite places to walk is our Greenway Trail. It’s going to have to wait till the next sunny day, though.
13. Try to remember twenty-two facts about the number twenty-two. For instance, did you know the number twenty-two is a deficient number. If I were twenty-two that might hurt my feelings. Fortunately, there are other facts about the number that could bolster its self-esteem. For example, twenty-two is also a pentagonal number and a centered heptagonal number. That sounds pretty darned important. (Bonus: I can combine this brain-powered task with #12.)
14. Try to save an extra $22 a month. This will net me $264.
15. Try to think of twenty-two ways to spend $264.
16. Try to justify buying an expensive cup of coffee twenty-two times. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. (Bonus: I’ve achieved one of the twenty-two ways to spend $264!)
17. Try to turn down an extra bite of dessert twenty-two times. This may fall under the “just say no” clause (See #11 in my last post). I don’t know. It will depend on how ridiculous I find the offer.
18. Try to go up and down the stairs twenty-two times a week. We’ve got a new carpet runner on our stairs, so it is much safer. I want to be perfectly clear: I am opposed to falling down stairs. I don’t know why we didn’t do this when we were finishing up building the house. For three years I’ve been tempting fate. Of course, people have been known to fall down carpeted stairs, so…
19. Try to create twenty-two pieces of art. Coincidentally, at the top of our stairs you will find my studio. Quite a brilliant pairing–#18 & #19.
20. Try to not interrupt people twenty-two times. If you know me, you might recognize this as one of my more challenging “try-to’s.” I have a problem with a fast tongue. And to all of you who have endured my interruptions, thank you. This one’s for you.
The Final Two
21. Try to chew each bite twenty-two times. Science has proven you should chew each bite between twenty-two and thirty-two times (I think. Maybe it is twenty to thirty.) I’m realistically shooting for the lower end of this scientific suggestion. But, since you’re not supposed to talk with food in your mouth, I don’t know if even the lower part of the spectrum will work for me. I’ve got way too much talking to do. (See #20)
22. Try to introduce my blog to twenty-two more people, who introduce it to twenty-two more, who introduce it to twenty-two. I’m going to need all hands on deck for this one. Are you willing to help? Thanks!
This is shaping up, folks!
So, there you go. Twenty-two try-to’s for 2022. I think it’s got a catchy ring to it. I’m feeling optimistic. I’m feeling like this is going to be fun–well, except for the saying no to the extra bite of dessert and not interrupting people. I’m not sure they’ll be particularly fun. But the rest…well, I don’t know about going up and down the stairs. Not sure that qualifies as fun. Still, #18 will be totally fun. And #11? Fun! Definitely fun. As long as I follow through with getting new walking shoes so that I don’t get any more blisters. And, speaking of getting new shoes, check out #15!
