I had so much fun on our Thanksmasbirthday making a couple of crafts with our grands. They were easy and kept them occupied for a long time.
If you have grandkids who are coming to visit from out of town or if yours are right down the lane, put these ideas in your back pocket. They are marvelous entertainment!
Here’s All You Need for the Ornament
First things first…Gather your supplies. I got everything at Hobby Lobby but you can get a lot of these things anywhere. You’ll need:
Tiny terra cotta pots
Clear plastic ornaments
Acrylic paint
Red satin cord (or you could use twine)
Felt pompoms
Simple How-to Directions
- Paint the terra cotta pots any color & let them dry.
- Take the top off the plastic ornament & fill about half full with pompoms.
- Hot glue the bottom of the ornament to the bottom of the terra cotta pot. Let the glue harden.
- Attach a cord to the ornament.
The Second (Really) Fun Project
Pompom Christmas Tree Project
This year, the boys stayed a whole week, so we had time to make a couple of things. We all took a quick run through Hobby Lobby to let them pick something they’d like to make.
We found these paper mache cones and stars and knew we had plenty of pompoms, so we hurried home to make our Christmas tree decoration.
Here’s all you’ll need:
Paper mache cones & stars
Pompoms
Acrylic paint
Glue dots (or your favorite craft glue)
Here’s How to Make the Trees
- Paint the cones and stars whatever color they want.
- After they dry, put the glue dots on and stick the pompoms to the glue dots
- Make a hole in the bottom of the star with a pen or any small tool.
- Put some glue on the tip of the cone and attach the star.
You can adapt this idea to the ages of your grandkids. It might be fun to have older kids cover the entire cone in pompoms or in patterns they design. George is 7 and Henry is 3 and they both loved the project.
Kid-tested, ChiChi-approved!!
I think both of these projects turned out great. And, the best part? The kids loved making them. They hung their ornaments on the tree and put their trees out for decoration. I’m smiling just thinking about how much fun we had! Oh, goodness, grandchildren are such a blessing!
If you try one of these, please let me know. I’d love to see pictures of your grandkids…and I’m not just saying that! If you follow my on Facebook or Instagram, be sure to post a picture of your grands! And, if you don’t follow me, well, what’s the hold-up? (Just kiddin’!)
