April 3, 2023

Hey, I’m glad you’re here!

As I get closer to my book’s debut, I feel the excitement building. How do I respond? I eat, of course! I’m one of those people who eats when she’s stressed, blue, excited, happy, bored, and occasionally when I’m hungry. Who am I kidding? I always eat when I’m hungry. So, in Toward the Corner of Mercy and Peace, food is most definitely mentioned. You’ll have to wait until you read it to discover all the goodies BUT…

I’ll make a deal with you…

If you’ll preorder my book this month–and let me know you have–I’ll send you one (or more if you’re really nice) of the recipes. You’ll need to send me your address.

SOME GOOD BOOKS COMING OUT THIS MONTH

I’ve recently previewed some great books that are coming out this week. I’ve written longer reviews on GoodReads and Amazon, but here’s a quick overview:

Burst by Mary Otis. I love this title. The verb vibrates throughout the book—the characters burst through doors, across a stage, into laughter, into freedom. Otis explores the visceral and often heartbreaking relationship between a mother and daughter, both sensitive artists. You can’t help but connect with them and hope they’ll get their acts together. Release Date: April 4

The Lonely Hearts Book Club by Lucy Gilmore. This book is about small things that are really big things. A seemingly “small” librarian with a “small” life makes decisions that lead to big changes in the lives of the people around her. The characters, who seem to have little in common, develop a bond over their love of books and, in doing so, find companionship where there once was loneliness and purpose where they were once only getting by. Release Date: April 4

Random Bits of Interesting Stuff…

My brother discovered Alex Hyner’s sky collages recently and shared them with me. I just love them! You can see more of Hyner’s artwork on Instagram or buy prints of his Skies series on his website.

Easter Basket Goodies

Since none of us can afford eggs this year, let’s fill those Easter baskets with some other goodies. Here are some ideas:

  • Chocolate! If your basket recipients would appreciate something other than a giant chocolate rabbit, try giving them a subscription to the Gourmet Chocolate of the Month Club. (But only if they’d really appreciate it!)
  • I love a good word search puzzle. Here’s one any age could use in his/her Easter basket: Large Print Bible Verse Word Search Puzzles
  • Cuddle and Kind is one of my favorite companies. Their knit stuffed animals are the cutest ever–you can find several bunnies, sheep, and ducklings, all perfect for an Easter gift. And, the company partners with charitable organizations that feed hungry children, so your purchase will provide ten meals! Win-win!
