In 2022, the June solstice occurs TODAY, June 21, marking the astronomical first day of summer—and the longest day of the year. Since I want it to be a long day in the very best sense of the word, I thought of how we could celebrate all day long! Let the festivities commence…
1
Start the day with a summer breakfast. What, you ask, is a summer breakfast? Well, take a look here for some great ideas.
2
Try some new stretches. Here’s a great little You-Tube video for a 15-minute whole body stretch.
3
Sort through your old sunscreen and toss what’s expired. Here’s why. Restock and slather it on every day.
4
Put together a summer playlist. Here’s what Spotify considers the top 100. These songs scream, “Summer’s here!” Crank ’em up!
5
Grab your beach reads whether you’re going to the beach or just chillin’ on your back porch. Summer is not the time to read War and Peace, although that’s exactly when I read it one year. (And I really loved it.) But maybe better to try one of these.
6
Listen to a fabulous podcast. If you’re into writing, reading, or want an inside look at the publishing industry, I can recommend several. Two of my favorites–“The Sh*t No One Tells You About Writing” and “Moms Don’t Have Time to Read Books.”
7
Walk outside. Check out the local Greenway Trail or stroll down Broadway. Walk through a neighborhood you don’t live in. You’ve already got your playlist and/or podcasts ready to go! Check out these amazing benefits to walking outside every day.
8
Be picky…about your fruit, that is. Blackberries and blueberries are in season right now. Here’s a place in southern Illinois that has amazing blueberries for you to pluck right off the bush. We go through gallons of them around here. I freeze them for year-round pleasure.
9
Pack a picnic to eat by the river, the lake, or even a pond. Here are some ideas for a special summer lunch that’s perfect spread out on a blanket.
10
Play! We have several outdoor games, like cornhole and badminton, that we enjoy playing with neighbors and family. I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about spikeball.
11
Create! I found several ideas for fun summery craft projects. I love these painted pots and I’m going to try at least one of these super-cute ideas with the grands.
12
Take a nap. Since it’s summer, catch some zzzz’s in a hammock. Don’t have a hammock? Don’t know which is the best? Well, I know where you can find out…here.
About now you’re thinking, “She doesn’t have a hundred ways listed here. She only has a dozen.”
You caught me.
I’m counting on you to add eighty-eight more. That’s your assignment! Do you think we can do it? I do! Watch out comments section, here we go…

Invite friends over for homemade ice cream. Make it fun, have a competition with friends bringing the ice cream of their choosing and vote on everyone’s favorite. New ice cream bowls as a prize for the winner.

That’s a great idea!
