All the Fun, All the Games, All the Family, All In!

Family games during the holidays are just the best! And this year, with my gift-giving theme being “Fun and Games” (see my post here for gift ideas), I’m super excited about playing with the whole family!

I’ve got some ideas that include every age and some that are for after the littles go to bed.



Outfoxed and Race to the Treasure are fabulous because they are cooperative–everybody plays and everyone wins or loses together. Even your youngest game player can participate…Well, at least the ones who are three and older. Two-year-olds can play with you as their partner!

Adding to Our Collection

This year I’m ordering at least one of these games to add to our repetoire. Like Out Foxed and Race to the Treasure, they are cooperative games. I love strategizing, cooperating, and working toward a goal together.


Includes everything from balance to counting to language development

This game encourages empathy, compassion, AND coooperation. What’s not to like?

I like this one because Pop is an engineer and he’ll be a natural!

More Winners

Here are some other tried and true games that win with our crew. 


We’ve played a “homemade” version of charades in the past, but this year I’m getting this “real” game that does not require reading.. The kids love acting out different words and think the adults doing it is absolutely hilarious. They’re right about that, too! And, of course, Uno is always a hit with kids and adults. They have different Uno game options now, but we are happy to stick to the basic one. Click on the pictures for a link to the games.


After Bedtime

If any of the adults are still “game” after the kiddos are down for the night, we like to play  



These two games are so much fun. They require a little thought, a little strategy, and some negotiating skills. Each one takes about an hour to play.

Have Fun!

After a quick survey of some friends, I found some other ideas. Apples to Apples and LCR are popular, as is Uno Attack and Cover Your Assets, which I’ve never played. Kids Scavenger Hunt, Happy Salmon, and Spot It-Holidays are other contenders.

Spoons is another favorite. We’ve played this for years. When my grandmother was still with us, she once rolled around on the floor trying to get a spoon away from Kent. It’s a hilarious memory! And that’s what’s so great about games–they keep us interacting instead of on our phones or staring at a screen.
