Ever need a change of scenery but you only have a weekend to spare? Kent and I recently took a mini-vacation that perked us right up! Thought I’d share what we did in case you’re in need of a quick get-away. Nashville holds a full deck when it comes to FUN and you can almost always find live entertainment, special exhibits, great shopping, and terrific food.
We went (ostensibly) to celebrate our anniversary. But I’m highly suspicious that those few hours spent at a bike shop played heavily into Kent deciding where we were going. Ha!
Heck, I don’t care what the motives were, the overnight stay was so much fun. And refreshing!
Five Points in Nashville
Fortunately for me, the bike shop was in the Five Points neighborhood. Chockful of charming shops and restaurants, it filled both my shopping bag and my stomach! While he was being fit for his bike, I strolled and shopped. Everybody’s happy!
When you go, be sure to take your time walking around. There are visual gifts everywhere. This metal art sculpture of a boy reading absolutely floored me! I mean, is it just perfect or what? Look at that feather stuck in the boy’s mask! And did you see the things hung on the fence? I love it that the artist stuck a succulent in the woman’s starry pot.
Artsy Selections and Tasty Treats
The shops and food offerings are just what you’d expect–creative and tasty. We ate at the amazing Five Points Pizza and ordered WAY too much food. But, OH, those garlic knots and marinara sauce! It would have been a travesty to have missed that.
Next time I’m going for a gourmet hotdog from I Dream of Weenie just because it’s so much fun. Look at the flower boxes! And their sign! The cleverness cracks me up. Did you notice “Hot and Spicy” written on the Jeannie…I mean Weenie…bottle?
Clever, Creative Foundations
You might say this entire neighborhood’s foundation is creative if you were a clever wordsmith. I’ll leave it to you to judge the writing…but you’ve got to admit you don’t see a house with purposeful graffiti on its foundation every day.
And no urn of flowers has ever had a lovelier pedestal. The bottom line–Five Points is built on beauty.
Holiday Shopping Already?!
I bought several Christmas presents that day because you never know when time’s going to get away from you and then suddenly there’s a tree up with decorations and stockings hanging from the mantel and people handing you wrapped boxes with your name on it. PHEW! (FYI: There are 103 days until December 25. See? It’s sneaking up on you!)
I was so busy enjoying the wide variety of goodies that I forgot to take pictures of the shops. But I did buy some things for the grands at Fairytales, A Children’s Bookstore & More and at Gift Horse, which is located a few short blocks from Five Points in The Shoppes of Fatherland. This block features locally-owned small businesses, including clothing boutiques, a nail salon, a pet supply shop, and restaurants.
My favorite purchase? I don’t know, could be the pencil sharpener shaped like a nose. When you sharpen a pencil in it, the shavings come out the nostrils. Don’t you know our grandkids are going to love that?!
What a Great Day!
We’ll definitely head back to this neighborhood. We didn’t get to eat at enough places! LOL! And I have a feeling we didn’t get enough shopping accomplished. But, I’ve got to tell you, even if I hadn’t bought a thing or eaten a morsel, the day still would have been a success. Soaking up the creative vibes was enough to inspire me, and I got to do that just strolling.
Do you have a favorite weekend get-away? Please share in the comments!
